What population does Hope House serve?
We house homeless women and their children who are from Planning District 16, which includes the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George and Caroline. In order to be considered for housing at Hope House you must have at least one child with you or be pregnant with a child at the time you are referred to Hope House. Please refer to "Referral Process" for information on how to be referred for our services.

How long does the program last?
Residents may stay at Hope House for up to 24 months. The average stay is 18 months. We also offer 6 months of after case management services once a resident has moved into independent housing.

Can I come to Hope House if my children are in foster care and I am trying to regain custody of them?
No. Women who are accepted to Hope House must have a child with them or be pregnant.

Can my 18 year old child come to Hope House with me if they are not yet living independently?
No. We only accept children under the age of 18.

Does Hope House accept pregnant teenagers?
Hope House may accept emancipated minors who are pregnant or have children, if they are appropriate for our program.

How soon is one accepted into the program after a referral is made?
Hope House is frequently at capacity due to the nature of our program. However, we have a waiting list and we will place new referrals on the waiting list. You will be contacted for an interview when the appropriate space becomes available.

Can I bring my furniture and household items with me?
Our rooms are furnished and we do not have storage space on site. You will need to place your furniture and large household items in storage if you are accepted into our program.

What will I be required to do if I am accepted into the program?
If you are not currently working you will be required to secure employment or enroll in an appropriate educational program such as a GED program or college. You will be assigned weekly household chores that must be completed on a daily basis. You will be required to pay off any outstanding debt and save money. You will also be required to participate in our programming. This includes attending workshops and training sessions regarding parenting, self-esteem, budgeting, life skills, resume writing, etc. If warranted you may be required to seek counseling for you and/or your children. You must remain substance free (no alcohol or illegal drugs), while in our program.

Does Hope House provide any other services?
We also provide non-perishable food and diapers (if available) to any person in need who lives in the City of Fredericksburg or the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George and Caroline. You must have a valid picture ID, with an address that is located in one of the above listed localities.

Does Hope House offer monetary assistance for rent or utilities?
No, we are unable to offer monetary assistance.
