About Us

Rappahannock Refuge, Inc., better known as Hope House, was established in 1987 to serve homeless women and their children from the City of Fredericksurg, and the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline, and King George.

We are a non-profit, 501(c)3, transitional facility where families can stay up to two years. After successfully completing the program, six months of case management follow-up is available for families who move to permanent housing.

Our Facilities

HOPE HOUSE - Our buildings at 902 and 904 Lafayette Boulevard can accommodate up to nine families depending on family size. Mothers usually share a bedroom with their children. There is a shared kitchen and an on-site laundry facility and 24 hour staff supervision.

HORIZON HOUSE - This is a four-unit apartment building at 907 Lafayette Boulevard. This building is designated for families who are in the final months of their stay in our program. Families are assigned to an efficiency type apartment. This allows for our families to experience more responsibility and less supervision as they prepare to move into permanent housing of their own. Families must first reside in Hope House for a period of time before moving to Horizon House.

SUNSHINE DAY CARE CENTER - Our day care center is located in the 902 Lafayette building and is fully licensed by the state of Virginia. We are licensed for 14 children ages 2.5 to 12 years of age. Sunshine House can be utilized by Hope House residents, Horizon House residents or low income families in the community if space is available We provide preschool, and before and after school care. Hours of operation are 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. No "drop in" day care. Please contact our Day Care Director at 540.371.0831 ext 216.
